St Petersburg Scientific Center is a regional division of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
It is situated on the embankment of the Neva River in central St Petersburg.
The building was designed by Giacomo Quarenghi in 1785 specially for the Imperial
St Petersburg Academy of Sciences (this was the late 18th century's name of the
academy created in 1724 by Peter the Great's decree).
Since then it has served the Academy.

St Petersburg Academic University Nanotechnology Research and Education Centre of the
the Russian Academy of Sciences has been founded in order to integrate
science and education in the field of physics and information technologies.
Today integration is a major condition for the development of modern science
and education. The idea of tripartite "composition" of the Academy of
Sciences, Academic University and Gymnasium was proposed as far back as
the Academy's foundation by Peter the Great.
Three centuries later it at last came true in the Centre,
which unites institutes and laboratories of the Academy,
University and a lyceum "Physical-Technical School".
At present St Petersburg Academic University is extending considerably the scope of its activity
in various fields of natural sciences and modern technologies.
